After opening last October, Bellina Alimentari already has new blood running the kitchen. Gizzy Barton is in as executive chef, the Ponce City Market Italian restaurant announced Wednesday. Barton replaces Dave Berry, who left Horseradish Grill to join the pre-opening team in March 2015.
"What I love about Gizzy is she strongly believes in our philosophy of food as a way of life," owner Tal Baum said in a prepared statement. "She is excited about spending time with our customers and inspiring them with traditional Italian cooking presented in an easy, approachable way."
Barton says she will apply her own touch to the menu: "Like Tal, I believe in taking a seasonal approach to food preparation. I'm looking forward to incorporating even more fresh produce from our local farmers into our summer selections." Her local culinary experience includes time at Rathbun's, KR SteakBar, Restaurant Eugene, and South City Kitchen.
Update: Regarding Berry's departure, Bellina provided Eater Atlanta the following statement: "David has left to pursue other endeavors. We wish him all the best."
