Bone Lick BBQ’s original Westside location is closing up shop, and a new tenant has already signed up to take over the space at 1133 Huff Rd. NW. Eight months after shuttering her Decatur restaurant, chef Deborah VanTrece has announced plans to resurrect Twisted Soul at the former barbecue joint.
Bone Lick announced the shutter on Facebook, revealing the final day of service will be this Sunday, August 14. While it’s the end of the road for the restaurant in Westside, the Bone Lick team will continue to operate its Sweet Auburn outpost at 327 Edgewood Ave.
VanTrece closed Twisted Soul at 314 East Howard Ave. on December 30 after she was unable to agree to a new lease. That space will become home to a second location for Old Fourth Ward pizzeria Ammazza. At her new address, where the restaurant will officially be called Twisted Soul Cookhouse & Pours, the chef will serve “modern interpretations of Southern soul food, peppered with global influences.”
“Twisted Soul is about doing things the right way, not necessarily the easy way,” VanTrece said in a prepared statement. “That’s why we fry our chicken a few pieces at a time in cast iron skillets, and why we were able to keep many of the people who worked with us at the original location. With the new space in such a fun, progressive neighborhood with plenty of great restaurants, we’re looking forward to adding our take on Southern cooking to the mix.”
VanTrece hopes to open her new restaurant this November.
