The new development that will bring life the intersection of Hosea L. Williams Drive and Second Avenue in East Lake is close to seeing its first opening. The Greater Good Barbecue, which is already in business in Tucker and Buckhead, will hold a "softish opening" for lunch on Wednesday, according to the development’s Instagram account.
The barbecue joint, operated by Fellini’s Pizza and La Fonda Latina owners Clay Harper and Mike Nelson, is being installed on the northwest corner of the intersection. It’s one of four new restaurants the business partners are planning to launch. One the southeast corner, James Beard Award-nominated pastry chef Aaron Russell and wife Jamie will open Poor Hendrix, what they hope will be "a comfortable place to enjoy fabulous food and drink with friends."
The Greater Good first opened in Tucker in 2012, and the Buckhead location followed in 2013. Harper and Nelson are planning two more restaurants for the intersection, but further details have not been revealed.
"We are excited about the opportunity to bring a thoughtful mix of local, independent restaurants to the neighborhood," Harper said when the development was first announced. "We completely embraced the philosophies of the East Lake Foundation and see this as much more than a business opportunity, and see this as a chance to be a part of an effort to bring real positive change to our community."
Update: August 10. The Greater Good is forgoing the soft-opening period and is fully up and running for lunch and dinner. Hours are Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 9 p.m.
