The restaurant group that operates Muss & Turner’s and Common Quarter is making a big change in East Cobb. Common Quarter will shutter at 1205 Johnson Ferry Rd. on February 4, and it will be replaced by a second Muss & Turner’s outpost. The new restaurant should open roughly one month after Common Quarter goes dark.

“While Common Quarter is beloved by many, at the end of the day, the restaurant was ultimately the vision and DNA of ex-partner Chris Talley,” Muss & Turner’s co-founder Ryan Turner said in a Thursday announcement. “Though Common Quarter was a fantastic restaurant, we also saw an exciting opportunity for us to grow Muss & Turner’s and bring the East Cobb community a unique concept unlike anything in their area — a chef-driven, flex-casual restaurant.”

The change in concept will mean a departure for Common Quarter executive chef Jeffrey Gardner. “Working with Chris Hall, Todd Mussman, and Ryan Turner has been a fantastic experience, and I’m really proud of what we built together at Common Quarter,” Gardner said. “Hopefully we’ve shown Atlanta that there is a vibrant dining scene outside of the perimeter, which will continue to grow with the new Muss & Turner’s.” Gardner will serve a “greatest hits” menu during the restaurant’s final weeks, and then he plans to spend time with his family and do some international traveling.

The new Muss & Turner’s will follow the same model as the Smyrna original, which opened in 2005, offering counter service during the day and table service at night. The restaurant’s parent company, Unsukay Concepts, also operates the Eleanor’s speakeasy out of Muss & Turner’s Smyrna and Local Three in Buckhead.
