The Castellucci Hospitality Group has settled on a name for its forthcoming Krog Street Market restaurant: Bar Mercado. Diners can expect “a casual Spanish tapas concept inspired by the Market of San Miguel,” according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
“It’s going to be casual, multi-regional Spanish tapas that are authentic and ingredient-driven but not quite as innovative as Iberian Pig, where we take more liberties with Spanish cuisine in the tapas format,” Federico Castellucci III, president of the company, told the AJC. “Nor is it going to be as fine dining as Cooks & Soldiers is.”
Square Feet Studio is in charge of the design, and Bar Mercado will reportedly open “in late April or early May.”
The Castelluccis are taking over the market space that previously housed The Cockentrice, as well as the stall that was home to The Spotted Trotter and Frankly. Husband-and-wife team Kevin and Megan Ouzts closed The Cockentrice in October, citing a need to “figure out a way to get Kevin back to The Spotted Trotter.” They followed that by closing the Krog Street Market outpost for their butcher shop in December. The original Spotted Trotter remains operational in Edgewood, and Ouzts will serve as executive chef at Barleygarden Kitchen and Craft Bar, the forthcoming Avalon biergarten from the team behind Hop City.
Bar Mercado will be the Castelluccis’ fifth restaurant. The company also operates The Iberian Pig, Sugo, Cooks & Soldiers, and Double Zero.
