Miami-based chef and James Beard award winner Michael Schwartz is opening a new pizzeria at Phipps Plaza in Buckhead. Genuine Pizza is currently slated to debut in December, according to an official announcement, and it will offer quick-fired pies along with snacks, soups, salads, and Italian entrees.
The forthcoming restaurant is a new outpost for Schwartz’s expanding pizza chain. The brand was previously known as Harry’s Pizzeria and operated only in South Florida. Schwartz says short rib-topped pizza, polenta fries, and a Stracciatella salad are among the restaurant’s signature dishes.
Miami-based firm McKenzie is in charge of the design. Patrons can expect to see light woods with accents such as yellow and grey Cuban tile, orange chairs, and a yellow-tiled Marra Forni oven. A pizza bar facing Genuine’s open kitchen and a glass-faced dough room will give behind-the-scenes views.
Schwartz won the 2010 Beard award for Best Chef: South thanks to his work at Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink in Miami.
