The Castellucci Hospitality Group is making a move into Krog Street Market with Bar Mercado. The forthcoming Spanish restaurant will open this spring, taking over the space that previously housed The Cockentrice. On Thursday, the Castelluccis released a few more details on the project.
- Three Castellucci chefs — Landon Thompson of Cooks & Soldiers, Eric Roberts of The Iberian Pig, and company co-owner John Castellucci — are teaming up to design the menu. John Castellucci will oversee the kitchen as executive chef when the restaurant opens.
- The menu will feature classic tapas dishes, meats, cheeses, and “traditional bar bites.” Look for small plates with alcachofas (artichokes), idiazabal cheese-stuffed piquillo peppers, estafodo (Spanish beef stew), croquetas, and pimientos de Padron.
- The beverage list will include a large selection of Spanish wines and “straightforward cocktails.”
- The Castelluccis are also taking over the stall that was home to The Spotted Trotter and Frankly. That will house a separate, currently unnamed project.
Bar Mercado’s atmosphere will be casual, and Castellucci Hospitality Group co-owner Federico Castellucci III has said most dishes will check in at less than $10. Square Feet Studio is designing the space, and plans call for an opening in late April or early May.
