Java Cats Cafe Opens Next Week [Updated]

Grab some coffee and hug at cat

The city of Atlanta is about to get its first cat cafe. After announcing her intentions back in May 2016, Hadyn Hilton will open Java Cats Cafe on Monday in Grant Park, she revealed on Instagram. The new coffeeshop/house of cat snuggles is located at 415 Memorial Drive SE, Suite C, in the same development as Tin Lizzy’s Cantina.

Hilton is partnering with no-kill shelter Paws Atlanta, and she'll foster up to 20 cats at a time at the cafe. All will be available for adoption. To enter the cafe's "cat room," patrons will pay a fee, which will include a cup of specialty coffee and an hour with the little fur balls. Coffee and cafe items also will be available without the purchase of the cat room access — though, why visit a cat cafe without hanging out in the cat room? The felines will be separate from the cafe proper to comply with health department regulations.

As for the comestibles, Hilton has been working on her barista skills at Downtown’s Ebrik Coffee Room, which will provide the java for Java Cats. Prepared foods will come from The Gathering, part of a non-profit organization that offers homeless individuals a path to success through training in the culinary arts.

Update: Hilton tells Eater Atlanta regular hours at Java Cats are Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. The cafe will push its opening to 10 a.m. on day one. Reservations for the cat room can be made online.
