Inside Barleygarden Kitchen & Craft Bar, the Hop City Team’s New Avalon Beer Garden

Now open in Alpharetta

Kraig Torres and his Hop City team have been selling craft brews to Atlanta’s beer enthusiasts since 2009. Now, Torres has a full-service beer garden and restaurant. Barleygarden Kitchen & Craft Bar opened on April 13 at Alpharetta’s Avalon mixed-use development.

Kevin Ouzts, proprietor of the Spotted Trotter butcher shop and former chef-owner of now-shuttered Krog Street Market restaurant The Cockentrice, is running the kitchen as executive chef. Ouzts is serving a menu built around a selection of charcuterie, sausages, and sandwiches, and the beverage program covers a tight wine list, house cocktails, and an expansive beer selection. “Look ... beer is kind of what we do here,” reads the drink menu. “Our selection changes daily, so look up at the big monitors and choose one of our amazing brews.”

Taking up a 2,000-square-foot space at Avalon’s new Boulevard East expansion, Barleygarden’s amenities include a dog-friendly patio; to-go window (open-container consumption is allowed throughout the Avalon development); and an open-air, rooftop bar.

Barleygarden is located at 900 Avalon Boulevard, and it’s open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Below, scope the menu and take a look inside.
