Chef Scotley Innis has a new gig in Midtown, taking over as executive chef at 5Church. The Colony Square restaurant officially announced the move Tuesday afternoon.

“So much of my cooking identity stems from my childhood and is blended with all I’ve learned as a chef here in Atlanta,” Innis said in a prepared statement. “I am passionate about every meal I prepare, as though I’m cooking for my family and friends each night at the restaurant. Every time a guest comes to 5Church to dine, I want them to feel at ease and leave with an experience they will rave about.”

Innis moves to 5Church from South City Kitchen’s Midtown location, where he had been serving as a sous chef since August 2016. Before his time at South City Kitchen, he ran the kitchen at Ormsby’s in Westside for five years. Innis’s local experience also includes time at celebrity chef Tom Colicchio’s long-shuttered Craftbar.

5Church, which is based out of Charlotte and also has a location in Charleston, opened in June 2016 with James Beard Award winner RJ Cooper as executive chef. Cooper took a reduced role in November, and he left the restaurant in January for a new project in Nashville. Partner Jamie Lynch, a contestant on the most recent season of Top Chef, had been overseeing the kitchen in the interim.

Innis says he will take inspiration from his Caribbean roots to update 5Church’s Southern-American menu.

“We’re thrilled to have Scotley joining our team,” 5Church Ayman Kamel said in Tuesday’s announcement. “Our guests are really going to enjoy the global flavors and modern edge that his cuisine has to offer.”
