Midtown is getting tapas and tacos today. College Park is now home to the second location of Candler Park breakfast staple Radial Cafe.

Babalu Tapas & Tacos opens today at the mixed-use complex 33 Peachtree Place (aka Alta Midtown) at the corner of West Peachtree and Peachtree Place.

This is the seventh location for the Mississippi-based restaurant operated by Eat Here Brands and the first to open in Atlanta.

COO Stan Stout says of the opening, “We’re excited to be in a city that’s known for its Southern hospitality because offering a dining experience that brings people together is what we’re all about.”

Named for the song I Love Lucy star Desi Arnaz’s character Ricky Ricardo sang during the show’s nightclub scenes, Babalu will feature “from-scratch, Latin-inspired dishes with Southern touches.” Chef Jeffrey McGar’s (formerly of Cherokee Town & Country Club) signature menu items include tableside-made guacamole, pan-roasted redfish, Duck confit tacos, and Creole shrimp and grits.

Look for margaritas, sangria, and a curated tequila selection on the bar side with local beers from Monday Night, Sweetwater, Reformation, and Jekyll Island.

Babalu features a large covered patio “flanked by an indoor/outdoor bar” and is accessible via MARTA’s Midtown station.

Radial Cafe opened its second location in College Park last week.
According to an article from the Georgia Voice, the Candler Park-based original quietly opened the new outpost on June 19 at 3725 Main Street in College Park.

As we previously reported in November, owner Frank Bragg announced plans to renovate the 2,700 square foot storefront along the city’s main drag. The new location features an original 1917 Coca-Cola mural and room for up to 130 diners.

Bragg told the Georgia Voice that the restaurant saw “a steady flow of customers” on its first day in operation including representatives from Delta and Porsche as well as “a number of College Park’s elected officials” and Mayor Jack Longino.

Like the Candler Park location, College Park will serve dishes made from organic and locally-grown food with a focus on sustainability. This week’s hours of operation are breakfast and lunch only. Dinner will be added to the lineup on Wednesday, July 5.
