Inman Park Indian restaurant Amara has finally announced the hiring of a new executive chef.
The hire comes from within the restaurant’s own ranks after the departure of chef Bhavesh Patel in March. Owner Sandeep Kothary announced today that chef Praveen Sharma has been called up to lead the kitchen.
Sharma comes to Amara via New Delhi, India where he spent nearly 20 years working in the kitchens of five-star hotels and restaurants throughout the country; including a stint as the executive chef at Kabab Factory.
After a shaky first few months in operation and in an attempt to listen to his guests, Kothary hired Sharma to head the kitchen in order to “take Amara back to its traditional Indian menu roots.” He and Sharma plan to bring Inman Park several dishes made popular at the concept’s sister restaurant Tabla in Midtown along with a few of the chef’s signature dishes.
“When we opened Amara, our menu had a focus around Indian food that also included some unique twists with fusion inspiration,” Kothary told Eater Atlanta via email. “We slowly realized that our guest feedback was pointing in the direction of classic Indian cuisine for this part of town.”
Sharma’s new menu should roll out next week after the Fourth of July holiday.
