The folks behind The General Muir, West Egg Cafe, Yalla, and Fred’s Meat & Bread are about to unleash what’s being called a “micro-food hall” in Midtown. The Canteen is taking over the 75 Fifth Street space that previously housed The Spence, and it will include new outposts for Yalla and Fred’s along with a couple of new brands: TGM Bagel and Square Bar.
Co-owner Jennifer Johnson tells Eater Atlanta a firm date is not set, but partners hope to have The Canteen open to the public this weekend. Anyone who has dined at Krog Street Market, home of the original Fred’s and Yalla outposts, will find the space familiar. Design of the stalls is similar to those inside the Inman Park development.
TGM Bagel will, as one might imagine, offer The General Muir's bagel selection, baked on-site, plus a menu of "quick and healthy breakfast items" and Batdorf & Bronson coffee. Square Bar will serve juices, energy shots, and smoothies during morning hours, and later in the day it will transform into a full bar with beer, frozen drinks, and "a focused selection of classic cocktails and wine."
