— Old Fourth Ward comfort food spot (slash rock venue) Venkman’s is introducing a special Friday and Saturday late night menu for the summer. The tight, four-item list is available after 10:30 p.m. — it’s part snacky, with smoked trout dip and barbecue chips, pickles, and house hummus with garlic chili oil. But the kicker is the weekly crock — a stew or stew-adjacent dish that will change each week. First up this weekend is a smoked chicken and corn chili;
— Foxeria del Sol, the annual mash-up of Eddie Hernandez’s Southern-meets-Mexican tacos from Taqueria del Sol and pit kings Fox Bros Bar-B-Q, is a-go for this year. It’ll happen Westside, at del Sol’s Howell Mill location on August 20, to celebrate the yearly arrival of Hatch chiles from New Mexico. Tickets are $30 and give you access to multiple food stations, there’s also beer (not included) and live music, and all proceeds go to Hogs for the Cause, a fundraiser for pediatric brain cancer research and treatment.
— The same two restaurants have also teamed up to create a brisket, fried onion, and arbol mayo taco, the Hogs Taco, available at all Taqueria del Sol locations, and Fox Bros from June 19 to 25. Proceeds also go to Hogs for the Cause.
