Bar Mercado, the soon-to-open restaurant that will replace The Cockentrice at Krog Street Market, will hold a limited pop-up this weekend to give diners an early taste. On Saturday, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., the Bar Mercado team will serve a couple of small bites: flatbread topped with a chickpea and hearts of palm puree, escalivada, and cana de cabra cheese, and setas salteadas with oyster mushrooms, sherry, bay leaf, and thyme. The preview is taking place at Krog Street Market’s souvenir shop, The Merchant.
The Cockentrice, owned and operated by Kevin and Megan Ouzts of the Spotted Trotter butcher shop, was one of Krog Street Market’s original five “anchor restaurants.” It announced plans to close last October, and Ouzts is now executive chef at Barleygarden Kitchen & Craft Bar in Alpharetta.
The Castellucci Hospitality Group (The Iberian Pig, Cooks & Soldiers, Double Zero, Sugo) quickly claimed the Krog Street Market space following The Cockentrice’s shutter. Bar Mercado will serve classic tapas dishes, meats, cheeses, and “traditional bar bites.”
