After originally targeting a summer debut, Mary Hoopa’s House of Fried Chicken & Oysters now plans to begin service this September. Robert Phalen, chef of Inman Park’s One Eared Stag, is opening the restaurant in East Lake’s Hosea + 2nd mixed-use development.
A representative for Mary Hoopa’s confirmed the updated opening goal and shared a new interior rendering. It appears the restaurant will have a throwback feel with plenty of bar seating and an open kitchen. Local firm Square Feet Studio is in charge of the design.
Phalen and executive chef Neal Bukiet are currently working on menu development. Dishes will be inspired by traditional Southern cuisine — Mary Hoopa, who was Phalen’s mother-in-law’s personal chef, is the restaurant’s namesake — and they will include various takes on fried chicken and oysters (obviously). Mikey Kilbourne is in as beverage director. His drink list will be beer-centric with a selection of the ubiquitous craft cocktails.
In addition to sharing a new rendering, the Mary Hoopa’s has launched an official website. Phalen’s restaurant will be the fourth to open at Hosea + 2nd, following The Greater Good Barbecue, Poor Hendrix, and Mix’d Up Burgers.
