Austin Edwards will helm the beer program at the revamped Stats Brewpub when it officially debuts this fall. Edwards, whose industry experience includes time as a brewer and a cellarman at Jekyll Brewing, is on board as the first brewmaster at the sports bar-brewery combo.
Brian Bullock, chief operating officer for Legacy Ventures, Stats’s parent company, says Edwards landed the gig after “an extensive search.” The new brewmaster will focus on ales and IPAs, and he plans to concoct a saison and pilsner for Stats’s beer list, as well.
Stats has been catering to Downtown’s sports bar crowd since 2008, and Legacy is in the process of installing a brewery in the venue’s lower-level events space. Once Edwards’s operation is fully up and running, Stats will officially become Stats Brewpub, and the kitchen will debut a new menu designed to pair with the in-house beers. The brewery space will be available for tours, tastings, and private events. In the meantime, Stats is continuing regular operations.
Legacy expects the revamp to be completed in October.
