Bar Mercado, the Castellucci Hospitality Group’s forthcoming Krog Street Market restaurant, now intends to open for business in “early September.” The Castelluccis announced the new timeline in an Instagram post.
Originally targeting a spring, then summer, opening, Bar Mercado will serve tapas, meats, cheeses, and “traditional bar bites,” and beverages will include a large selection of Spanish wines and “straightforward cocktails. The model is similar to the Castelluccis’ other local restaurants, The Iberian Pig, Cooks & Soldiers, Double Zero, and Sugo. The restaurant company scooped up the Krog Street Market space shortly after its previous tenant, The Cockentrice, announced plans to close last year.
The Cockentrice was one of Krog Street Market’s original five “anchor restaurants.” Owners Kevin and Megan Ouzts have also shuttered the market outpost for their Spotted Trotter butcher shop. In addition to operating the Spotted Trotter’s original Edgewood location, Kevin Ouzts is currently serving as executive chef at Barleygarden Kitchen & Craft Bar in Alpharetta’s Avalon development.
