The “edible cookie dough” trend is coming to Atlanta: Batter Cookie Dough Counter will open at Ponce City Market later this fall. The dessert shop is moving in across from Honeysuckle Gelato on the first floor of the Central Food Hall.
Batter comes from partnership between Atlanta native Julie Abes and local company High Road Craft Ice Cream. Unlike dough that’s baked to become actual cookies, Abes’s product is eggless and made with heat-treated flour. Batter’s dough will be available by the scoop for in-store consumption or by the pint to take home. An expanded catering operation will launch next spring
Flavors at Batter include sugar, chocolate chip, peanut butter, oatmeal, lemon, salted caramel, and s’mores, as well as some rotating, seasonal selections. The shop will also offer baked cookies that have evolved from their dough form, cold-brew coffee, and milk in the plain and chocolate varieties.
“We’re excited to bring something new to Atlanta and to call Ponce City Market home,” Abes said in a prepared statement. “We’ll have something for everyone, including vegan and gluten-free varieties.”
So-called edible cookie dough gets the “edible” descriptor because it doesn’t have the salmonella risk that comes with the traditional stuff.
