Fifth Group Restaurants is marking 25 years in Atlanta with the opening of a fourth location of its popular southern fare restaurant South City Kitchen at Avalon in Alpharetta on January 16 and the announcement of a second location of Downtown’s Alma Cocina. Alma will take over the space formerly occupied by BrickTop’s at the corner of Peachtree Street and Piedmont Avenue.
South City Kitchen (SCK) Avalon will open its doors next Tuesday at 5 p.m. for dinner at the Hotel at Avalon (also opening on Tuesday) located at 9000 Avalon Boulevard. The 6000-square-foot restaurant will include a patio and an “expansive bar” which will open to the hotel’s lobby. Executive chef David Gross, whose previous work includes Bones Steakhouse and Blue Ridge Grill, will head the kitchen which will not only serve dinner but be the first SCK location to serve a daily, southern-style breakfast. Weekend brunch and lunch will be added in a few weeks.
As for the decision to open a second location of the group’s latin and Mexican restaurant Alma Cocina, Fifth Group partner Robby Kukler said, “Buckhead has been a major area of growth for Fifth Group in the past several years – we opened South City Kitchen Buckhead in 2016 and Ecco Buckhead is slated to open later this year.”
As previously stated, Alma Buckhead will take over the former location of BrickTop’s, a 7000-square-foot space in the Terminus complex. It is set to open in mid-2019. The company announced in 2016 plans for a third location of Ecco in Buckhead near Phipps Plaza. The opening for that restaurant was slated for last year but will likely be mid-2018. Ecco also has locations in Midtown and at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
