Smokebelly BBQ which branded itself as “chef crafted barbecue” quietly closed its doors this past Sunday. The restaurant located at 128 East Andrews Drive had previously planned on closing Sunday, February 4 following the Super Bowl.
Tory Bartlett, CEO of Southern Proper Hospitality (the group which owns Smokebelly,) told Tomorrow’s News Today, “After three years in Buckhead, Southern Proper Hospitality (SPH) is looking to relocate Smokebelly. SPH will be opening an authentic Baja Mexican concept in the space in early spring. The Blind Pig Parlour Bar [speakeasy] will remain open.”
No reason was given by SPH for the decision to close Smokebelly a week earlier than planned. Possible relocation sites for Smokebelly and details on the forthcoming Mexican restaurant to replace it on East Andrews were also not provided.
In addition to Smokebelly and The Blind Pig Parlour, the group’s other restaurants include Tin Lizzy’s, The Big Ketch, Gypsy Kitchen, The Southern Gentleman, Beni’s Cubano, and Milton’s Cuisine and Cocktails.
