Breakfast chain Flying Biscuit opening in Toco Hills
The Atlanta-based breakfast and brunch chain the Flying Biscuit Cafe will soon have a location in the Toco Hills neighborhood, Tomorrow’s News Today reports. Flying Biscuit-Toco Hills will open next year in a portion of the former Petite Auberge French restaurant space in Toco Hills shopping center. It joins nearby neighbors like Spiller Park Coffee, Chopt Creative Salad Co, and Toco Giant liquor store in the complex. One of the owners of the cafe’s Midtown and Candler Park locations came under fire recently after LGBTQ publication Project Q Atlanta uncovered he and his business contributed $2,000 to Georgia gubernatorial nominee Brian Kemp. The Republican nominee and Georgia Secretary of State supports the passing of highly-controversial “religious freedom” legislation in the state. Flying Biscuit’s Midtown restaurant sits at the intersection of the rainbow crosswalk at the corner of 10th Street and Piedmont Avenue — considered the heart of Atlanta’s LGBTQ community. [ToNT]

Decatur gains another European-style hot dog stand
Dog Towne Franks, which operated as food truck the Pup Truck for years, now has a permanent location at 307 East College Avenue in downtown Decatur, according to the AJC. It takes over the former Arepa Mia space. Owner Alan Makarewicz says the menu centers around “a lot of eastern European food” like Bavarian pretzels, pierogies, and poutine and is “loaded with different types of hot dogs and sausages.” This isn’t the area’s first or only hot dog shop. Doggy Dog is located one-tenth of a mile away in front of Kimball House on East Howard Avenue selling Bavarian and German-inspired hot dogs. [AJC]
DIY salad and rice bowl restaurant opens in North Decatur
Speaking of Decatur, Gusto will open its third Atlanta location at 1545 Church Street in the North Decatur Square shopping plaza near Whole Foods 365 on Thursday, October 18. The complex is located across from Emory Decatur hospital. For those unfamiliar with the fast-casual restaurant’s menu, think build-your-own salads, rice bowls, sandwiches, and wraps. [Official]
Sports bar Big Sky Buckhead revamps more than its menu
College football bar and restaurant Big Sky Buckhead on Cains Hill Place has revamped its menu and done a little redecorating in its downstairs dining room. The move toward a more refined dining experience is meant for the restaurant and bar to remain competitive with the forthcoming mixed-use developments in the area. While diners can still watch college football, the downstairs dining room has been redesigned to provide a more “intimate” eating experience while the bar area focuses on “communal dining” and sports. New menu items includes steak frites, chicken Milanese, and buffalo chicken wontons. [Official]
