Joystick Gamebar on Edgewood Avenue is really getting into the spirit of Halloween with the addition of a creepy carnival bar called Freak Show Funhouse. The Halloween-themed pop-up is located in a lot next door and opens for boozy hot cider, Hofbrau beer, Jell-O shots, and tacos October 16 at 7 p.m., culminating in a big blowout on All Hallows’ Eve.
The open-air bar includes a highly disorienting hall-of-mirrors maze, complete with fortune-tellers, DJs, and contemporary takes on traveling carnival characters, like the “gentrifying developer” and Instagram’s “ducky lips girl.”
Tuesdays will see the Funhouse transform into an apocalyptic zombie experience. The pop-up will host a Wussy Mag release party on October 24 and a costume contest and DJ funk battle on October 25 to raise money for the Metro Atlanta Taskforce for the Homeless. There’s also talk of an outdoor screening of the Tim Burton classic Beetlejuice.
While this haunted house is for adults only (21 and up,) Joystick owners Brandon Ley and Johnny Martinez say they’re holding a family-friendly freak show Saturday, October 27, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The funhouse is accessible via the backroom inside Joystick.
