Mele Kalikimaka, the retro-holiday, pop-up bar from S.O.S Tiki Bar in Decatur returns for more tropical cheer, rum-soaked cocktails, and surfer rock Christmas music starting Wednesday, November 21 at 6 p.m. sharp. The holiday shenanigans will continue through at least December 24 during the bar’s normal operating hours, Wednesday through Saturday — ugly sweaters and tacky floral shirts optional.
Last year, S.O.S went full-on Christmas with their holiday makeover, complete with colored string lights draped on just about everything, dancing Santas, and bartenders decked out in holiday Hawaiian shirts.
Music swings wildly from classic holiday tunes like Bing Crosby’s (and the bar’s theme) “Mele Kalikimaka” to the Pyronauts’ rendition of “Carol of the Bells.” The drinks will likely follow suit. Last year the menu included a liquid version of rum raisin cake, a frozen riff on egg nog, and a hot buttered rum made with coffee liqueur and maraschino that knocked more than a few fuzzy socks off.

This won’t be Atlanta’s only bar dripping with holiday cheer. Miracle on Monroe is set to return to Tapa Tapa in the Midtown Promenade on Friday, November 23 to give S.O.S. a bit of kitschy Christmas competition. A second Miracle bar location is also planned. Although, that location has yet to be released.
As for the cocktail menu, owner Ian Jones (Victory Sandwich Bar, Little Trouble, forthcoming LLoyd’s Restaurant & Lounge) tells Eater Atlanta it will be comprised of “mostly” new drinks filled to the brim with “outrageous presentations and bunches of Xmas malarkey.”
In the meantime, take a look at last year’s offerings at S.OS. Tiki Bar.
