After months of delays, Ammazza Decatur finally opens Tuesday, November 13, for Neapolitan-style pizza and antipasti next door to Doggy Dogg’s hot dog shack and across from Kimball House on East Howard Avenue. The restaurant is currently only open for dinner and is BYOB until they acquire their liquor license.
This means the return of Ammazza’s wildly popular pizzas like the fiery Inferno with The Spotted Trotter’s spicy soppressata and vegan pizzas topped with cashew cheese.
The 2,500-square-foot restaurant includes an outdoor patio as well as several seating areas and a bar inside. Large windows flank the front of the building and antique brick and steel columns accent a blue-stained, concrete floor set against a black color palette throughout the dining room. Two Acunto pizza ovens were imported from Italy and the kitchen features windows overlooking the dough and pasta-making rooms.
Prior to the two, back-to-back car accidents which shuttered the original Edgewood Avenue location in 2016, owner Hugh Connerty told Eater Atlanta he had no plans to incorporate a dough room in the Decatur restaurant due to limited space in the building.
Connerty says Ammazza-Old Fourth Ward is on track to reopen at its original location in early 2019.
