In a chilly twist to the bizarre and viral proliferation of holiday pop-up bars across Atlanta this year, the rooftop skating rink at Ponce City Market returns Friday, November 23 through Sunday, January 13. “Skate the Sky” ice rink transforms the rooftop terrace into a 3,500-square-foot skyline, winter wonderland, complete with holiday decor and igloo dining.
Skaters must first pay $10 to access the rooftop through its mini amusement park Skyline Park and then pay an additional $15, which grants them a pair of skates and 50 minutes of gliding time on the ice. A small menu of bites is available for purchase at the rink.
Spots inside communal igloos, with themes like “cuddle up” and “glamping”, can be rented around the rink for $37.50 per person for two hours. Skate rental and admission to Skyline Park are included, but additional food and drinks are not. Igloos include a s’mores bar. What could be more glamorous than urban camping on the rooftop of Ponce City Market in an igloo while sipping cocktails and roasting s’mores?
Private igloo rentals are available for up to eight people, too. These frozen digs (hopefully heated) include a s’mores bar, the option to order bottle service, a separate cocktail menu, and the full food menu from the rooftop’s restaurant, Nine Mile Station.
For those not lucky enough to secure an igloo invite, warm up at RFD Social in the tower and order a hot toddy or hot chocolate. However, with the per person rooftop access and skate fees, plus the purchase of food and drinks, the igloo might be a bargain.
