A bar for people who really like conspiracy theories is opening
Conspiracy Basement Drink Parlor is opening in Summerhill on Georgia Avenue by early 2020, according to Atlanta Magazine. The conspiracy theory-driven theme bar is owned by Judy Ho and Jake Karmin, both formerly of the shuttered Hand-in-Hand Pub in Virginia-Highland. Karmin, who has been interested in conspiracy theories since childhood, sees the bar’s classic cocktail menu and space occasionally being redone for theme months, like the X-Files or Elvis is alive. Yesterday, Eat Me Speak Me chef Jarrett Stieber announced he is opening a restaurant a few doors down from Conspiracy. [ATLMag]
Fast casual, gluten free, farm-to-table restaurant opens in Buckhead
Karma Farm, supposedly “America’s first certified, gluten-free, fast-casual restaurant,” is open on Pharr Road, What Now Atlanta reports. According to owners McCall Wilder and Scott Wilder, Karma Farm is certified by the Gluten Free Food Service Division (GFFS) of the Gluten Intolerance Group (GIG) of North America. Karma Farm’s menu serves “clean, gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free” dishes featuring “Southern-inspired flavors with global influences and humanely-raised, mindfully-sourced ingredients.” It dubs itself a “modern” ”protein and three” or “meat and three”. Karma Farm is currently only open for lunch, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. [WNA]
Atlanta bars near MARTA stops
Curbed Atlanta just published a handy map of 20 bars within walking distance (mostly) from MARTA stations around the city. The list includes the Brookhaven stop for the multi-location Hudson Grille. Its Midtown location on Peachtree is also walkable from the Midtown station on 10th Street. Elliott Street Deli and Pub in Castleberry Hill at Georgia World Congress Center station, Lean Draft House at the West End station, Ration & Dram at the Inman/Candler Park station, and Brick Store Pub at the Decatur station also made the list. And, as it goes with these maps, readers had a lot to say in the comments and on social media about the choices. Pro tip: MARTA trains stop running at 1 a.m. [CURBEDATL]
ESPN puts out ranking of sports stadium health inspection violations
Want to know what’s lurking in the kitchens of vendors at the local sports venue in town? ESPN sure does, and they devoted an entire interactive guide to health inspection violations, complete with a ranking from best to worst, for 111 stadiums around the country. Only two of Atlanta’s three major sports venues made the list. The newly revamped State Farm Arena was number two in the rankings for fewest health code violations, while Braves SunTrust Park ranked 55th on the list, with violations ranging from employee eating habits to keeping raw meat at improper temperatures. Mercedes-Benz Stadium was not listed. Probably a good thing considering it is set to host the Super Bowl in February. [ESPN]
