Gu’s Kitchen, now open in the former Yong He Zhi Jia space next to Pho Bac at the Orient Center in Chamblee, is expanding its hours to 8 p.m, Tuesday through Sunday. The restaurant, which opened in November, was previously only open until 5 p.m. Owner Yvonne Gu Khan told Eater Atlanta at the time, they planned to expand dining hours soon, but wanted to focus on the food and service during the first few weeks.
Khan, who owns Gu’s Kitchen with her parents, says they have also updated the weekday and weekend menus to include lunch combinations served until 4 p.m. and larger dinner and weekend portions for sharing. The new restaurant, which marks the return of Gu’s to Buford Highway following the closure of the much-loved Gu’s Bistro in 2015, plans to offer a few of the bistro’s greatest hits.
“My parents are rotating specials based on “most missed dishes” from customer feedback. We are posting these specials on our social media,” Khan says.
The counter-serve restaurant has seen a steady stream of diners since opening last month. That includes chef Hugh Acheson. The Top Chef judge and owner of Empire State South in Midtown stopped by the restaurant recently to congratulate Chef Gu on the opening.
The family also owns Gu’s Dumplings in Krog Street Market and will open a second location inside the food hall of Forsyth County mega-development Halycon next year.
