Former Head Brewer of Twain’s Brewpub Opens a Brewery in Chamblee

Chase Medlin, the former head brewer of Twain’s Brewpub & Billiards in Decatur, just opened Contrast Artisan Ales in Chamblee. The brewery is located in a former garage on Peachtree Road.

The rather high-gravity beers are not to be trifled with here, hovering in the 8 percent ABV range. On tap are a double IPA, a blonde ale, and a stout named Hypnotize — which can come coffee-infused for extra zip. Beers are ordered by the half and full pour.

Contrast’s design leans into crisp neutrals to keep the space light and bright. A wraparound, white granite top bar is lined with beadboard at the base and a Chihuly-inspired chandelier hangs over a handful of hightop tables near the custom mural by Atlanta painter and sculpturist Jagua Martian and muralist Austin Blue.

In addition to its weighty beers, Contrast partnered with local coffee roaster Beaneology, to offer their own coffee beans. Cøntrast Cøffee beans comes in light, medium, and dark roast and can be purchased by-the-bag at the brewery. Contrast’s nitro cold brew is also on tap at the bar.
