North Marietta’s the Red Eyed Mule, known for no holds barred biscuit sandwiches and messy burgers like Jake’s Sloppy Slaw burger, is being forced to relocate, Tomorrow’s News Today reports. Apparently, the Mule’s landlord, who owns a similar restaurant called Come-N-Get It next door, isn’t renewing their lease on Church Street Extension. The Mule needs to be out by December 31.
Food Network star Alton Brown named the Mule’s Jake’s Sloppy Slaw Burger his “favorite sloppy thing to eat,” saying if not eaten correctly, it “becomes a better-take-your-shirt-off kind of dish.” It’s also Brown’s go-to “Atlanta” burger — the one he heads out for when he’s back home in Marietta from filming.
Owners Sabra Wessel and Joseph Wood posted a plea to Facebook on Saturday, asking customers to help “Save the Mule” and assist them in finding a new home for the restaurant in Marietta. Commenters immediately began weighing in on where the pair should relocate to, including heading ITP to Peachtree Street. However, that seems highly unlikely as Wessel and Wood want to stay OTP and in Marietta.
