Baja-style Mexican restaurant and tequila bar Chido + Padre’s will replace the recently shuttered Smokebelly BBQ at 128 East Andrews Drive in Buckhead. The restaurant is slated to open in early March.
Southern Proper Hospitality (SPH) CEO Tory Bartlett said via press release the restaurant “will celebrate Mexico’s fresh, coastal cuisine and bring a fun and festive party to Buckhead.” In other words, the menu will be an elevated take on Baja Mexican fare and include strong tequila-based drinks as well as late night hours. In addition to the tequila and “fiesta forever” vibe, Chido + Padre’s is promising the wearing of a sombrero for those celebrating a birthday.
SPH corporate chef Benjamin Meyer’s menu will be centered around mesquite grilled meats and seafood and include other dishes such as campechana (seafood medley), vegetarian tamales, chicken mole, smoked brisket tacos, queso, salsas, and guacamoles.
As for the beverages, expect margaritas, tequila and tequila-based cocktails, and craft beer. A tequila and mezcal bar named The Bandida Bar will be located adjacent to the main dining room separated by a chain link fence. The bar also includes charred wood accents and an image of the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.
As for Smokebelly’s return, SPH said they are currently looking for a new location for the barbecue restaurant and will reopen it once that location has been found.
Chido + Padre’s will be open for lunch and dinner. Weekend brunch is also planned.
SPH also owns The Big Ketch Saltwater Grill, The Blind Pig Parlour Bar, Gypsy Kitchen, The Southern Gentleman, Beni’s Cubano, Milton’s Cuisine & Cocktails, and Tin Lizzy’s Cantina.
