It seems Illegal Food, the purveyors of okonomiyaki fries and the coveted burger The Hank, may be reopening their restaurant in the Cabbagetown neighborhood. Chef Steven Lingenfelter and his wife and general manager Laurie Dominguez made the announcement via Facebook Tuesday. They plan to open in the old Cabbage Pie space on Carroll Street.
Lingenfelter and Dominquez were forced to close Illegal Food’s Virginia-Highland location last summer.
Since the closure, the couple have gotten back to their pop-up roots; including hosting their popular Late Night Ramen pop-up at Little’s Food Store in Cabbagetown. Lingenfelter and Dominquez began popping up in the kitchen at Joystick Gamebar on Edgewood Avenue in 2013 before opening their own restaurant in Virginia-Highland in 2015.
No word as to when the new Cabbagetown restaurant will debut or if the name will remain ‘Illegal Food’. Eater Atlanta has reached out to Lingenfelter and Dominquez for comment and will update this story when more information becomes available.
