Dad’s Coffee Bar, a coffee shop and live music venue, is opening at 240 Dekalb Industrial Way just east of downtown Decatur. Owner Jason Waller plans to open later this spring.
Waller told Eater Atlanta he is closing soon on a small business loan and expects the buildout on the property to begin shortly.
Dad’s Coffee Bar will include a coffee shop (with wifi) and serve as an intimate live music venue for local musicians, poets, and spoken word artists. Waller said the premise behind Dad’s Coffee Bar began with his D.A.D. Presents (Depression Awareness Dude) videos which feature performances and interviews with local musicians and artists living with disorders such as depression or addiction. Dad’s Coffee Bar will continue Waller’s mission to break down the stigmas often associated with mental illness.
“Building this thing from the ground up is challenging,” Waller said of getting Dad’s Coffee Bar funded. “I’m humbled by how many people have rallied around this and helped out when they could. We are so close to getting the build out started.”
Waller has been popping up around Atlanta with Dad’s Coffee Bar over the last year. He’ll be back at co-working space Wondershop in Candler Park this Saturday, February 24 beginning at 9 a.m.
