Meehan’s in Buckhead has closed
The Irish pub and sports bar on East Paces Ferry Road apparently closed after service on Friday night, Tomorrow’s News Today first reported. The restaurant announced the closure on Facebook. Further reporting by What Now Atlanta over the weekend states the new owners of the property would be opening another sports bar called Irby’s Tavern. Buttermilk Kitchen chef Suzanne Vizethann is assisting with the menu for the restaurant. The tavern is named for Henry Irby’s Tavern, which opened in Buckhead (then called Irbyville) in the 1800s. The “hometown sports bar” could open as early as this summer. Meehan’s still has locations in Atlantic Station, Downtown, Sandy Springs, and Vinings. [ToNT/WNA]

Food Network host Alton Brown is engaged
The Marietta resident and host of Cutthroat Kitchen (formerly of Good Eats) announced his engagement to Atlanta restaurant designer Elizabeth Ingram on Saturday night. The couple was seen dining earlier in the evening at Thai food pop-up (soon to be permanent) restaurant Talat Market. Brown posted a photo of he and Ingram stating, “Digging into the curry @talat_marketatl with @elizabethingramstudio.” A commenter asked if Ingram was his “lady friend” to which he replied, “fiancé”. While most people were congratulatory, a few disappointed commenters lamented that Brown was off the market. Ingram has designed several Atlanta restaurants, including many of Ford Fry’s spots like Westside’s Marcel and, most recently, Eater awards design winner, Golden Eagle in Reynoldstown. [Instagram]

Antico Pizza expanding to Sandy Springs
There will be a new location of the Napoletana pizza spot if all goes well with permitting. Owner Giovanni di Palma has his sights set on the former 4 Seasons Pottery location near Hammond and Roswell roads, according to Reporter Newspapers. Further reporting by Atlanta Magazine states that if Sandy Spring approves di Palma’s variance on the property, the new Antico outpost will include Vespa-style food carts and an indoor/outdoor beer and wine bar. di Palma also says he plans to open a food cart village at his Little Italia in Westside, across from the original Antico. The carts could also make appearances at Ponce City Market. [ReporterNews/ATLMag]
