Sugar Factory taking over Mi Cocina space in Midtown
Sugar Factory American Brasserie is opening in the former Mi Cocina space at 1080 Peachtree Street in Midtown, What Now Atlanta reports. This is the first Georgia location. The restaurant offers pancakes, crepes, salads (including the garbage salad), pizza, and burgers. Expect desserts (sugar shock) like a 12-person sundae with 24 scoops of ice cream and every topping known to humankind called King Kong or an Oreo shake with cookie crumbles, chocolate chips, vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, and caramel. Martinis such as the Sour Apple Lolly with a Pop Rocks rim and lollipop are on the beverage menu. Opening 2019. [WNA]
Update on El Mexicano owners’ new Grant Park restaurant
Roxana and Octavio Aguirre, owners of El Mexicano on Moreland Avenue, anticipate a summer opening of their second restaurant Patria Cocina, according to a post on Facebook. This new Mexican restaurant (which plans to serve brunch, too) will be located at the forthcoming Beacon complex at 1039 Grant Street on the edge of Grant Park and Peoplestown. Patria Cocina plans to serve “authentic Mexican food with a modern touch.” News of the couple’s second restaurant was first reported by What Now Atlanta in 2016. [Facebook]
Japanese barbecue restaurant opening soon at Atlantic Station
It seems Gyu-Kaku (located in the former Copeland’s space) may be opening soon. The restaurant posted a job listing for a restaurant manager on CraigsList this week with “opening soon” in the headline. The Los Angeles-based Japanese restaurant is similar in style to Korean barbecue where diners grill meats and vegetables at the table. The menu includes items like garlic-marinated shrimp, dry-aged skirt steak marinated in miso, and dry-aged short rib. Gyu-Kaku will offer beer, shochu, and sake. [Craigslist/EATL]
Tanaka Ramen is open in Brookhaven
Tanaka Ramen is now open at 205 Town Boulevard in Town Brookhaven, the AJC reports. It takes over yet another shuttered Boneheads Grill location. Pho 24 is replacing the Boneheads at Atlantic Station later this year and a second location of Castleberry Hill Southern restaurant Old Lady Gang will replace another in Camp Creek Marketplace. Take a look at the menu for Tanaka Ramen. [AJC]
