Savannah Sasser (Hampton + Hudson, Twains) is IN as the executive chef for Jerry and Krista Slater’s new restaurant The Expat in Athens. Sasser plans to leave her current position leading the kitchen at Hampton + Hudson by the end of April. The Expat is scheduled to open the first week of May.
“We are beyond excited to announce some news. Savannah Sasser is joining The Expat team as our Executive Chef,” the Slaters said via the restaurant’s Instagram. “With her dedication to sourcing quality, local ingredients and passion for philanthropic outreach, we believe she will be right at home here in Athens.”
The Expat is located in the former Two Story Coffeehouse space in the Five Points neighborhood and will feature a main dining room and an upstairs cocktail lounge. The building is currently undergoing a complete overhaul, which the Slaters are documenting on the restaurant’s Facebook and Instagram pages.
Eater Atlanta has reached out to Sasser for comment on her menu plans for The Expat, but the Slaters say to expect stirred cocktails, vinyl records, and an all-day food menu with late night bar snacks.
The Slaters owned H. Harper Station in Reynoldstown which they closed in 2016 after five years. The building is now home to diner’s club Golden Eagle and breakfast and lunch spot Muchacho, owned by Michael Lennox of Ladybird Grove & Mess Hall.
