Chef Edward Lee at Highland Inn
PBS Mind of a Chef star, Top Chef, and restaurateur Edward Lee will be at Poncey-Highland’s Highland Inn Ballroom Monday, May 14 at 7 p.m. to discuss and sign copies of his new book Buttermilk Graffiti as part of the second annual Global Growers benefit. Chefs George Yu (Taiyo, Noona, Susy Siu’s, Double Dragon) and Andy Gonzales (Steinbeck’s) will be providing food for the evening. Atlanta Journal-Constitution food and beer writer Bob Townsend serves as host and moderator. Tickets are $35 per person and includes a signed copy of Lee’s book. Simple Abundance cooking class at Cook’s Warehouse-Ansley
Concentrics Restaurant Group and The Atlanta Community Food Bank team up Monday, May 14 at 6:30 pm. for a cooking class taught by chefs Michael Bertozzi (Two Urban Licks, Molly B’s) and Matt Weinstein (TAP Gastropub). Instruction includes searing and basting steaks, preparing gnocchi, blanching and seasoning vegetables, and making French creuller along with a wine pairings discussion. Grab tacos from chef Jarrett Stieber (Eat Me Speak Me) and watch a few spaghetti Westerns projected on the wall at Chrome Yellow Trading Co. on Edgewood Avenue Tuesday, May 15 starting at 7 p.m. Menu includes beef, pork, and tofu tacos, spicy beans and rice, vegetables, and flan for dessert paired with micheladas and Tecates. Atlanta Food & Wine Festival
Day and weekend passes along with tasting tent passes are still available for the eighth annual Atlanta Food & Wine Festival May 31 - June 3 in Midtown. In addition to the learning experiences happening throughout the weekend at Loews Atlanta, the festival also features several dinners hosted by chefs from around the South and the world. The tents this year include 27 food producers, a rotating list of 35 chefs each day, a cocktail garden, a Southern goods marketplace, 70 wine producers, and 80 spirits brands.
