The Savannah-based Zunzi’s Takeout & Catering opens Wednesday, May 30 at 1971 Howell Mill Road, Tomorrow’s News Today reports. The fast-casual restaurant, located near dive bar Mr. C’s and across from Howell’s Kitchen and Bar, is known for South African style bites with Swiss, Dutch, and Italian influences.

Those unfamiliar with Zunzi’s catchphrase may find themselves caught off guard the first time the cashier utters “shit yeah” upon purchasing their order. Don’t be alarmed. It’s simply a term of endearment and the restaurant’s hope that’s what diners will say after finishing one of their sandwiches. Zunzi’s even has a secret sauce named for the catchphrase. Oh, and it’s vegan, too.

Expect sandwiches like the fully-loaded Godfather with chicken, two kinds of sausage, provolone, Romaine lettuce, tomato, and parmesan topped with marinara, ‘Shit Yeah’ sauce, and Zunzi’s dressing on French bread. There’s a vegan portobello mushroom sandwich with peppers and onions, squash, zucchini, mixed greens, tomato, and avocado topped with hummus, ‘Shit Yeah’ sauce and Zunzi’s dressing. Diners can also build their own sandwiches.

All but two of the eight sauces at Zunzi’s are vegan. The sandwich bread is provided locally by Atlanta’s H&F Bread Company.

Owners Chris Smith, John Hooff, Sr., and John Hooff, Jr. say they plan to open a second Atlanta location. No word as to where or when that location might open.

Take a look at the menu.

Open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
