The Piccadilly in the Howell Mill Shopping Center on Howell Mill Road is closing its doors after 30 years this month, according to Tomorrow’s New Today and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The cafeteria-style restaurant located behind the ACE Hardware was scheduled to close next Saturday, June 30, but it seems that date has been pushed up to this Sunday, June 24.

The closure of the Howell Mill Road outpost, which opened in 1988, will leave College Park, Decatur, Stockbridge, Fayetteville, Tucker, Marietta, and Conyers as the only remaining Georgia locations.

In the report by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution this week, Max Jordan, Piccadilly’s vice president of marketing, blamed the closure on an expired leasing saying, “The landlord has a new development planned for the site that doesn’t include us.”

The 60 or so employees of the Howell Mill Piccadilly will apparently move to one of the other eight metro Atlanta locations.

An outpost of fast casual cafe Newk’s Eatery is slated to open in the Howell Mill Shopping Center in the space formerly occupied by Chin Chin and Mama Nikki’s Pizza next door to Kroger. Newk’s serves soups, salads, and sandwiches.

This portion of Howell Mill Road and neighboring Berkeley Park are finally seeing some long-overdue redevelopment and interest from local retail shops and restaurants. Earlier in June, Jason Sherman announced his plans to open Street Taco at 1523 Howell Mill Road in the Berkeley Park neighborhood just south of I-75. The restaurant will serve a variety of tacos and Mexican street fare. Sherman expects Street Taco to open in late August or early September.
