Part of East Atlanta Village (EAV) became a movie set this week as Clint Eastwood’s The Mule took over an area around Flatiron Bar and the faux pizzeria Clarke Pizza Co. on Glenwood Avenue that Eater Atlanta reported on earlier this week. Atlanta Magazine confirmed the movie news Tuesday in their weekly round-up of films being shot around the city.
The Mule is supposedly based on the true story of Leo Sharp; a World War II veteran who becomes a drug dealer and courier for the Mexican cartel. The movie stars Eastwood, Dianne Wiest, Michael Peña, Laurence Fishburne, and Bradley Cooper. Cooper was spied on set by an eagle-eyed EAV resident holed up in Joe’s East Atlanta Coffee Shop.

Apparently someone did snap a pic of the elusive Eastwood sitting in his director’s chair taking a break from filming on a hot afternoon in the Village

Still no word as to the role EAV’s temporary pizzeria Clarke Pizza Co. played in the movie. Atlantans will need to head to theater to find out when The Mule is released next year. The production has since moved on to another location—possibly in Norcross.
