Former One Midtown Kitchen chef Matt Weinstein will lead the kitchen at the second location of South African restaurant Biltong Bar opening at Shops Buckhead later this fall. One Midtown closed in February after 16 years. Weinstein then did a brief stint at Tap in Midtown before it closed in May. Both were owned by Concentrics Restaurants. Prior to working at One and Tap, Weinstein ran the kitchen at chef Kevin Gillespie’s Woodfire Grill.
Weinstein is planning a few new additions to the restaurant’s beef jerky program, for which it’s known at the original location inside Ponce City Market. The Buckhead restaurant is also offering expanded hours—opening lunch through late night—and includes new menu items like a burger, tandoori chicken wings, and smoked peri-peri trout dip.
“The decision to join the team was not only exhilarating but an easy one for me”, Weinstein says in a prepared statement. “I love working with international fare, and South African fare encompasses a mix of several cuisines including Indian, French, and Malaysian. The menu will be brought to life with the use of as many locally-sourced products as possible, primarily cooking with each season.”
Weinstein joins beverage director Sean Gleason at the 6500-square-foot restaurant. Biltong Bar-Buckhead will sell grab-and-go items such as spices, rubs, and sodas.
The Ponce City Market location was recently named one of the top bars in the country by Thrillist.
Biltong Bar is owned by restaurant group True Story Brands—10 Degrees South, Yebo Beach Haus, and Cape Dutch.
