Ramen Station, the next restaurant from Michael Lo and chef George Yu (Taiyo Ramen in Decatur, Suzy Siu’s Baos at Krog Street Market, Noona in Duluth) will open Thursday, September 20, at Larkin on Memorial in Grant Park next to Grant Park Market. The opening comes on the heels of Lo and Yu’s restaurant swap — Double Dragon Chinese to Son of a Bear Korean — in Decatur’s Oakhurst neighborhood last week.
The menu hasn’t been released yet, but might be similar to Taiyo and serve baos, rice bowls, and Japanese small plates in addition to tonkotsu, spicy beef, and seafood ramen. Taiyo’s ramen comes with a choice of extra toppings, including shoyu tamago egg and kimchi as well as the option to rev up the flavor with spicy chile, miso garlic, or herbs.
Lo, Yu, and Taiyo Ramen host a yearly ramen competition with the proceeds benefiting the restaurant nonprofit Giving Kitchen. The fourth annual Ramen Fest takes place at the Stave Room across from ASW Distillery on Armour Drive October 1. Over two dozen Atlanta chefs and restaurants will participate in this year’s event.
Ramen Station joins Full Commission, Firepit Pizza Tavern, and Kale Me Crazy now open at Larkin. Chef Robert Phalen’s (One Eared Stag, Mary Hoopa’s House of Fried Chicken & Oysters) next restaurant, Woodward & Park, should open within a few months across from Full Commission.
