Revelator Coffee’s the Mourning Dove Cafe at Shops Buckhead closed over the weekend; albeit, temporarily while the cafe relocates to the Westside. The Mourning Dove opened last December in the high-end retail complex on Peachtree Street and took over the space once occupied by another coffee shop, Corso Coffee.
The new location and a reopening date have not been disclosed, but a representative for the Mourning Dove says the move to the Westside allows the cafe and its chef, Andrea Kirshstein (former pastry chef Empire State South), to reach more of an audience. This explanation seems to indicate the underlying reason behind the decision to close in Buckhead as lack of foot traffic.
However, the cafe will not take over the former Revelator coffee shop space on Howell Hill Road. That shop closed in June and was transformed into Revelator’s training lab and the Birmingham-based coffee brand’s Atlanta headquarters.
The all-day cafe still plans to open early for coffee and breakfast and operate through dinner when it reopens on the Westside. Kirshtein’s menu includes pastries, breads, and baked goods as well as dishes such as potato pancakes with cured salmon, toad in the hole, and carrot tomato shakshuka.
“My staff is incredible, and we’re all super excited to bring this concept to more people,” Kirshtein says of the move in a prepared statement. “We’ll keep everyone posted on the timing for our new Westside spot.”
Revelator is opening a new coffee shop in downtown Atlanta at 101 Marietta Street. It’s expected to open later this year. Other Revelator locations include the former Grant Park Octane coffee shop, Spring Street at Square on Fifth, Ponce City Market, and the Whole Foods in Chamblee-Brookhaven. Octane still holds onto its name at the original shop on Marietta Street in Westside, the Woodruff Arts Center, and Atlanta Tech Village.
