TGM Soup Co. officially takes over Midtown micro food hall The Canteen’s TGM Bagel stall, Monday, January 28. The new soup stall is only open for lunch. Expect bowls of tomato bisque, chicken and mushroom, Italian wedding soup, brisket chili, and broths with the option to add ingredients such as parsley and lemon or miso and shiitake mushrooms. All soups are paired with breads from TGM Bread.
The Canteen, located at Tech Square near the campus of Georgia Tech, is owned by The General Muir’s chef Todd Ginsberg and Ben and Jen Johnson and Shelly Sweet of West Egg Cafe. The partners say TGM Soup, which operates as a lunch pop-up at TGM Bread bakery next door to the General Muir, has become quite popular since opening in 2016. They decided to provide the soup shop with a second, more permanent home.
“While TGM Bagel [at The Canteen] developed a great following for our coffee, bagels, and pastries, the Tech Square area is just much busier during the lunch hours than during the early morning,” Sweet explains in the prepared statement. “Changing the format in this way allows us to offer more options to our guests when they really want it.”
It’s not all bad news for morning regulars of TGM Bagel. The new soup stall plans to continue carrying TGM Bread loaves and rolls, like the multi-grain bread, asiago levain, and Hawaiian rolls. Prepared soups, salads, and breads from TGM Soup will also be available after the stall closes for grab-and-go at Square Bar.
The Emory Point soup pop-up at TGM Bread is open Tuesday - Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The Canteen includes Square Bar and second outposts of Yalla and Fred’s Meat & Bread, which have stalls at Krog Street Market.
The Canteen’s new hours, effective January 28: Monday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Tuesday - Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
