Wintry Weather Can’t Stop Little Tart Bakeshop From Opening in Summerhill

The case is full and the coffee is hot at the new Georgia Avenue bakeshop

The Little Tart Bakeshop is open on Georgia Avenue in Summerhill, just west of Grant Park and Zoo Atlanta, despite the wintry mix predicted for Atlanta on Tuesday. This is the third location of Sarah O’Brien’s wildly popular bakery and coffee shop and the first restaurant to open along the redeveloped Georgia Avenue, southeast of Georgia State University Stadium (née Turner Field.)

The Summerhill location has a pastry counter and full espresso bar serving Counter Culture coffee, cafe seating, and hopes to begin serving brunch this weekend. Lunch is planned for the future. Little Tart-Summerhill includes a full kitchen and bakes all of its pastries on site.

O’Brien told Eater Atlanta in June, choosing Summerhill for her next Little Tart shop was a “no brainer” after years of admiring the old buildings on Georgia Avenue and throughout the neighborhood.

Despite what turned out to be just cold rain Tuesday, the neighborhood showed up to support O’Brien and the Little Tart staff during the opening.

“I’m feeling incredibly proud about the opening today. I was honesty overwhelmed by the support from the neighborhood,” O’Brien says. “Folks walked down with their kids and dogs, and it really felt like a block party. We are honored to have been so welcomed in Summerhill.”

O’Brien has been a James Beard Award semifinalist for outstanding baker.

Big Softie, O’Brien’s adjacent soft serve ice cream shop using Georgia dairy, should open this spring.

Little Tart shares space with Revelator Coffee (formerly Octane) at the Jane in Grant Park and has a stall at Krog Street Market. Little Tart’s future neighbors in Summerhill include Woods Chapel BBQ from the owners of The General Muir, another location of Hodgepodge Coffeehouse, Halfway Crooks Brewing, Junior’s Pizza, Little Bear, and Talat Market.

Update: January 30, 7:45 a.m.: This story was updated to reflect O’Brien’s comments, further details on the new location, and to clarify Little Tart shares space with Revelator in Grant Park.
