Midtown sandwich institution and popular late-night haunt Woody’s CheeseSteaks opened its second restaurant on Irby Avenue in Buckhead, What Now Atlanta reports.
Located in the former Sabot Shoes space, Woody’s is apparently celebrating with a half-off menu at the new shop from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, October 2, and Thursday, October 3.
Owner Steven Renner partnered with Woody’s operation manager, Matthew Porcelli, in the Buckhead venture. The restaurant is over twice the size of the original Monroe Drive location at 1,400-square-feet and includes a small patio out front and a much larger kitchen. Despite its diminutive size, the Midtown restaurant still cranks out a reported 2000 cheesesteaks a week.
Popular orders at Woody’s include the original cheesesteak with shaved, chopped steak, sautéed onions, and a choice of white American cheese, provolone, or Cheese Whiz and the pepper and mushroom sandwich with shaved, chopped steak, sautéed onions, mushrooms, peppers, and cheese of choice.
Woody’s opened in 1975 on a slip of land between Monroe Drive and Virginia Avenue across from Grady High School’s stadium near Piedmont Park. Renner took over the shop from the original owner, David Pastoria, in 2010.
