Longtime Cheshire Bridge Road Chinese restaurant Hong Kong Harbour closes after nearly 40 years.
Hong Kong Harbour was sold Wednesday, October 2, to Susie Chae and Matt Chae who plan to convert the restaurant to Street Bistro serving “Asian-American street food” with a “street cart theme.”
The restaurant, located next door to Taverna Plaka Greek restaurant, served popular dishes like sweet and sour pork, kung pao chicken, and a variety of egg foo young and lo mein.
Eater Atlanta reached out to the new owners for more details.
In June, longtime Creole-style seafood restaurant Red Snapper (another Cheshire Bridge institution) was sold to a new owner. However, it seems new owner, Randy Mercer, chose to keep the menu relatively intact.
Cheshire Bridge, bordered by the Morningside neighborhood to its south and the international food thoroughfare of Buford Highway to the north, has remained mostly untouched by the over-development currently taking place around city of Atlanta. However, a series of restaurant and business closures over the past decade and new apartment buildings going up along the corridor signal a change for the strip filled with night clubs, sex shops, and beloved hole-in-the-wall restaurants.
The street is also home to the 92-year-old Southern restaurant The Colonnade, popular Thai restaurant Little Bangkok, and a location of chef Eddie Hernandez’s Mexican restaurant chain Taqueria Del Sol.
