The second location of Inman Park Southern diner Folk Art opened Monday in downtown Decatur, Atlanta Business Chronicle first reported. Folk Art takes over the space previously occupied by Thumbs Up Diner which closed on West Ponce De Leon last October due to skyrocketing rents in the city east of Atlanta.
Owned by Randy Parks and Rhoda Hill, the Decatur location serves the same menu as in Inman Park, and includes a full bar with draft beer. Folk Art’s “Triple D” meatball burger was featured on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives hosted by Guy Fieri. In 2018, the network also crowned Folk Art’s choice waffle combinations the best in Georgia. The restaurant’s decadent grilled cheese sandwich consists of cheddar, provolone, gruyére, Swiss, and creme brie
As for the interiors, Parks and Hill kept Inman Park’s eclectic vibe alive in Decatur with murals by local artist R. Land and original works from other area artists. The much larger restaurant offers seating for 138 in the dining room, 17 seats at the bar, and a 10-seat patio.
This week, Folk Art-Decatur opens for breakfast and lunch only and closes at 3 p.m. Regular hours and dinner begin Monday, November 18.
