Latin restaurant Alma Cocina prepares for December opening in Buckhead

The Buckhead location of downtown Atlanta Latin restaurant Alma Cocina opens at the corner of Peachtree Street and Piedmont Road in December. The Fifth Group-backed restaurant first opened at One Ninety One Peachtree Tower in 2011 and serves dishes such as roasted chicken mole, fried avocado tacos, and a pork lechoncito (suckling pig) tamale. Longtime Alma Cocina chef Chad Clevenger plans to lead the kitchen in Buckhead, while his former sous chef, Robert Rambo, takes over at the downtown restaurant. [Official]

Graveyard Tavern owner opens bowl and burrito spot Freshii at Colony Square

An outpost of Canadian-based bowl, burrito, and salad chain Freshii is now open at Colony Square in Midtown. It’s owned by Dustin Saboorian, who also owns dive bar and restaurant Graveyard Tavern in East Atlanta Village. For the uninitiated, Freshii serves a menu of “customizable” bowls, burritos, salads, wraps, soups, smoothies, and juices. The counter-serve restaurant is located in building 100, across from Starbucks. [Official]

There’s now a monthly drag queen brunch at Eater 38 restaurant Twisted Soul Cookhouse

Every second Saturday of the month during brunch, popular Atlanta singer and entertainer Amber Divine plans to serenade diners at Twisted Soul Cookhouse and Pours on Huff Road with top 40 hits and Broadway classics. Divine most recently performed at the restaurant last month for Sunday brunch during Atlanta Pride. The first drag queen brunch installment kicks off this Saturday, November 9, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. A restaurant representative says Twisted Soul’s regular brunch menu will be served, including its pimento cheese grits casserole, smoked pork belly benedict, and Southern tofu scramble with black eyed peas, rice, and collards. Divine describes her Twisted Soul brunch act “like being at a tea party with Alice in Wonderland and all of these wonderful weird and talented people have come to tea.” [Official]
