A third location of South African restaurant Biltong Bar, known for its beef jerkies and boozy cocktails, opens next spring at Avalon in Alpharetta. The restaurant takes its name from biltong, a type of South African dried, cured meat.
Backed by the True Story Brands restaurant group (10 Degrees South, Yebo Beach Haus, Cape Dutch), Biltong Bar-Avalon includes a dining room, a covered rooftop patio and lounge, counter service for to-go orders, and a large retail area selling the restaurant’s cured meats as well as grab-and-go items. Avalon is an open carry complex, so expect a few roadie cocktails on the menu here, too.
In addition to its meat and cheese board selections, the restaurant also serves a variety of snacks like popcorn with shaved biltong and sandwiches such as a biltong grilled cheese and a Boerewors sausage roll topped with bacon and a fried egg.
The first location of Biltong Bar opened at the central food hall inside Ponce City Market in 2016, followed by a second and much larger location at Shops Buckhead last year.
